little organization project

I have a new blog crush Mini Manor. LOVE this girl and her home. It's simple, it's fresh and it's ORGANIZED!!! Take a look. People like this are just born with decorating talent and I am equally jealous of her photography. I actually found this blog through a pinterest post about a jewlery organizer that she crafted...

So, I decided I really wanted to try this because all of my costume jelwery (and I have a TON of it) was hanging on little nails that I pounded into the walls in my closet when I first moved into the house. It was getting out of control! So I followed her blog tutorial and modified things a bit but came up with this-

The utensil trays I found at Walmart were slightly smaller than the trays she used, and I also decided to hand paint my trays with the same color paint that we used for the trim color in the bedroom (she had hers spray painted white). I bought 4 trays (each $9.99) because I had so much jelwery to organize and then the cup hooks were about $0.99 for 6 and I bought about 6 packs of those.

I really like to hooks at the bottom which allow me to hang long necklaces without them getting all tangled together. I actually had to go through all of my jelwery and let go of the necklaces I hardly wear because even with all these hooks I had too much. But I'm ok with that. My rule is now if I bring something into the house I need to take something out (my biggest fear in life is hoarding).

I am happy to say that I have actually DONE something with all those hours I spent on Pinterest!!

a pretty wonder full birthday

I felt, sigh, just really lucky this year on my birthday. It wasn't a super amazing day or anything but I was surprised by some of the goodness....like my staff rapping a birthday song for me, buying me lunch (and a red velvet cake) and making me walk around the hospital all day with a balloon tied to my office keys and a big pin that said, "it's my birthday, I'm 32."

Then, of course, there were the gifts from John...who always gets me something unexpected and special. You would think it would be difficult to top years past but he did. This year I received a really, really light box and inside were 3 photography lessons from our super talented wedding photographers Adam and Miranda from Reminisce Photography. Not only are they amazing wedding photographers ranked within the top 5% in the country with a photo that was featured in Time Square by Kodak - they are super cool people to hang out with. So, I get to spend three hours with them and my camera trying to absorb as many photography hints as my little brain can handle.

Then I also received this...

Completely unexpected but so amazing!! John actually got the idea in a Men's Life magazine (an article on how to give a great gift to the wife/girlfriend that will really impress them) - but it was bought from Etsy at the jennyleefowler shop. John had to send her a photo of us and then she created the silhouette - again another great photo from Reminisce.

well hello 2012

So, a funny thing happened the other day, my sister said, "what happened to the 25 days of Christmas?", to which I replied, "you noticed that (that I basically failed at my attempt to post everyday for 25 days)". And she says,"well yeah, I was looking forward to a new post each day." then I replied, "yeah, I know I am a total f#%* up."

I was just so shocked that anyone was still reading my blog, let alone looking forward to my blog! I noticed that I don't do so well when I set goals, especially when I make those goals public! I'm better just going with the flow. If I post great, if not, at least I don't look like I have committment issues! So, no more blog promises, you get what I just so happen to get to. I love my little blog, it's been around since early 2006! I'd hate to see it fade away. But it does go through seasons. Sometimes I post a lot and sometimes it's quiet, like me. And that is ok.

I was thinking about 2011 and it was a pretty dang good year. Here we're a few highlights:

5. I made my TV debut, a 60 second commercial that was aired on TLC, CNN and HGTV and right in the middle of the Packer game, I hear it's still on the air from Mequon to Oostburg, who knew I'd be recognizable throughout small towns of middle Wisconsin!

4. I learned to ride a motorcycle and actually went to the DMV and got my motorcycle licensce. I'm still scared as all get out to ride, but I'm getting better, I keep telling myself not to crash.

3. I got two new tats, and they are totally bad ass. They hurt like heck to get, but 30 minutes of pain = lifetime of art.

2. Enjoyed a pretty darn relaxing honeymoon to Punta Cana, but then landed up in the hospial with an exotic viral pneumonia...it was still a great trip!

1. Had a lovely fun filled amazing weekend with family and I also married my best friend. So, overall great year, with some ups and downs but pretty much awesome. Looking forward to another amazing wonder filled year, and maybe, just maybe I'll post more about it.

Today the kids worked on their letters to Santa...

on the 2nd day of Christmas...

Last Saturday I dropped our Holiday Cards in the mail, a little early, I know, but since I had time off of work they were all stamped, addressed and ready to go about 2 weeks ago (I suppose that was one perk of having Dengae fever). This year I designed my cards on theTiny Prints website www.tinyprints.com. I love this site! There were so many amazing designs to choose from, it was tough to pick just one. Since it is virtually impossible to get all four kids in one photo and get all four kids smiling at the same moment in time - this layout worked well because I could take the best shot of each one of them.
